Verivox
Verivox is a large-scale project centered on creating a wayfinding and signage system that seamlessly integrates with the building’s architecture. Spanning approximately 6,000 m² across two floors and housing about 220 rooms, the project aimed to demonstrate how architecture and signage can harmonize, support, and enhance one another.
The SkyAngle facility, part of the Bahnstadt Project in the heart of Heidelberg, was designed in 2019 by Fischer Architekten GmbH. Its cubic, three-dimensional architecture with shifted levels creates striking plays of light and shadow, emphasizing brightness and darkness to achieve a graphic, iconic presence. The asymmetrical floor plans reflect this layered, dimensional concept and inspired the development of multi-layered cubic shapes throughout the design.
To support navigation, 50 unique icons were developed based on the floor plan shapes and engraved on ultra-matte plates, each featuring a hand-colored orange line. A flexible and clear orientation system was created, including 30 directional boards and 8 floor plans. The boards, mounted across the full width of the building’s pillars, alternate between white and orange to improve clarity. Eight overview maps were placed at entrance walls to guide visitors easily through the space.
Additionally, 200 meters of custom-designed patterns were applied to all glass doors and walls. These rail-shaped patterns draw inspiration from the site’s history as a former freight yard, with each pattern individually designed to ensure every surface is unique. Together, the continuous lines create a flowing visual path through the building, enhancing the orange and anthracite interior and adding a dynamic interplay of shadow and light as the sun moves through the space.
